The child of John Spratt and Sophia Dale, Leonard Spratt, the great-uncle of Nigel Horne, was born in St Nicholas-at-Wade, Kent, England on 9 Sept 18771,2,3,4,5,6, was baptised there on 21 Oct 1877 and married Rose Dennett (with whom he had 6 children: Leonard M, Lewis George, Reginald John, Phyllis Rose, Joyce Catherine and Ronald Ernest) in Thanet, Kent, England c. Aug 19068. Like his father, he was an agricultural labourer.

During his life, he was living at The Street, St Nicholas-at-Wade on 3 Apr 18819; at Shuart Cottage, Podden Street, St Nicholas-at-Wade on 5 Apr 189110; and at 11 Grotto Road, Cliftonville, Kent on 2 Apr 191111.

He died on 3 Feb 1935 in Thanet5,7. He served in the military from 24 Apr 1899 to 11 Aug 1919 (Royal Navy: Service number: 291903).
