The 5th of 8 children of Thomas Sergeant and Telitha Crance, Isaac Sargent, the second cousin four-times-removed on the mother's side of Nigel Horne, was born in Allen, Indiana, USA on 29 Oct 18601,2, and was orphaned at the age of 15 following the death of his father in 1873 and mother in 1875.

He was married twice, to Rachel Vanwey (on 22 May 1879 in LaPorte, Indiana, USA) and Rosa Harsh (on 3 Jul 1892 in Nebraska, USA, following the death of Rachel Vanwey on 29 Jun 1887). He had 4 children: Ray, Essie Elanora, and Calbert Leroy with Rosa Lucinda and Alvin Edmund with Rachel Agnes. During his life, he was living in Pleasant, Indiana on 1 Jun 18604; in Hanna, Indiana in 1870 and in 1880; in Valley, Polk, Nebraska in 1885; in Canada, Polk, Nebraska in 1900; in Polk, Nebraska, USA on 1 Jun 1900 when he was living with his son, Ray, following the death of his wife on 29 Jun 18875; and in Osceola, Nebraska on 15 Apr 19103.

He died on 4 Mar 1918 in Polk, Nebraska1,2 and is buried in Osceola, Nebraska1.
