The child of Charles Culmer (an ordinary agricultural labourer) and Emma Beak, Edith Culmer, the first cousin twice-removed on the mother's side of Nigel Horne, was born in Sarre, Kent, England on 29 Sep 18911,2 and baptised in St Nicholas-at-Wade, Kent, England on 6 Dec 1891.

She married Charles Fulljames at St John the Baptist's Church, Margate, Kent, England on 18 Apr 19293. On 31 Mar 1901, she was living at 1 Chalk Hole Cottages, Flete, Thanet, Kent[4].
