A telegraph messenger and the child of Frederick Goddard (a plumber's labourer) and Charlotte Page (a laundress), Bertram Goddard, the second cousin twice-removed on the father's side of Nigel Horne, was born in Folkestone, Kent, England on Jun 16, 1886, baptised there at St John The Baptist on Jul 25, 1886 and married Lois Mattson (with whom he had 3 children: Frederick Guy Charles, Mary Idabelle and Frances Ellen) in Cedaredge, Delta, Colorado, USA on Apr 11, 19146.

During his life, he was living at 65 Foord Road in Folkestone on Apr 5, 18911 and on Mar 31, 19018; in Montrose, Colorado, USA on Jan 1, 19203; and in Olathe, Colorado on Apr 1, 19309.In 1910 he travelled from New York, New York, USA to Southampton, Hampshire, England (SS Adriatic), arriving on 20 Apr (sS Adriatic.).

He died on Aug 22, 1955 in Colorado4,5 and was buried at Olathe Cemetery, Olathe, Colorado after Aug 22, 19557.
