A bakery errand boy and the child of William Amos (a platelayer railway) and Esther Dale, Walter Amos, the first cousin twice-removed on the father's side of Nigel Horne, was born in Dover, Kent, England on 12 Nov 18961,2,3 and baptised in Buckland, Kent, England on 20 Dec 1896.

During his life, he was living at London Road, Dover on 31 Mar 1901[1] and at 5 Minnis Terrace, Dover on 2 Apr 1911, less than a mile from his uncle Leonard Dale who was living at 12 Douglas Road, Dover, Kent, England[4].
