A farm bailiff and labourer and the child of Stephen Tutt and Elizabeth Hubbard, James Tutt, the 3 times great-grandfather of Nigel Horne, was born in Mersham, Kent, England c. 17791,2, was baptised there on 31 Oct 1779 and and married Sarah Peters (a nurse with whom he had 4 children: James, Edmund, Elizabeth and Maria) in Folkestone, Kent, England on 3 Oct 18014.

During his life, he was living in Cheriton, Kent in 1841[1] and at 5 Shortlands Farm, Beckenham, Kent on 30 Mar 1851[2].

He died on 18 Apr 1856 at Shortlands, Beckenham, Kent3.
