A waitress and the child of Joseph Dane (a master mariner) and Emma Stupple (a domestic servant), Lily Dane, the second cousin twice-removed on the mother's side of Nigel Horne, was born in Faversham, Kent, England c. Feb 19061. She was married to Ernest Manuel in Wentworth, Ontario, Canada on 24 Apr 1926.

During her life, she was living at Quay Lane, Faversham on 2 Apr 19112; at 44 South Street, Faversham in 1923; and on Dalkeith Avenue, Hamilton, Ontario in Nov 1923.

She died on 24 Feb 1968.In 1923 she travelled from Quebec, Canada (SS Montclare) to Liverpool, Merseyside, England, arriving on 25 Oct.
