The child of Matthew Danton (a maintenance & textile fitter at a silk mill) and Mary Barlow, Gilbert Danton, the second cousin once-removed on the father's side of Nigel Horne, was born in Rochdale, Lancashire, England c. Feb 19191. About 1944, he was living at 92 Bellshill Crescent, Rochdale.

He died on Apr 11, 1944 in Burma (missing, presumed killed in action) and is buried at Rangoon Memorial Cemetery, Rangoon, Yangon, Myanmar. He served in the military in 1944 (lancashire Fusiliers)
