The child of Edward Coombs (an ordinary agricultural laborer) and Harriett Culmer, Jessie Coombs, the second cousin twice-removed on the mother's side of Nigel Horne, was born in Hernhill, Kent, England on Feb 13, 18911,2 and married Reginald Goodhew (an aircraft fitter with whom she had 4 children: Charles Thomas, Rose May, Marie L and Reginald Norman) at Parish Church, Hernhill on Aug 4, 19143.

During her life, she was living at Waterham, Hernhill on Apr 5, 18915; at Red Lion Inn, Hernhill on Mar 31, 19016; in St Mary Cray, Kent, England on Apr 2, 1911; at 37 Dearne Road, Bolton-upon-Dearne, South Yorkshire, England on Nov 13, 19164; and at 18 Pine Road, Rochester, Kent on Sep 29, 19391.
