Biography

The child of George Culmer (an agricultural labourer) and Harriet Marten, Julia Culmer, the first cousin three-times-removed on the mother's side of Nigel Horne, was born in Canterbury, Kent, England on 17 Apr 18521, was baptised there at St Andrew's Church on 23 May 1852 and married James Jordan (a horse keeper with whom she had 9 children: Louisa, Frederick John Thomas, Alice Ann Harriet, Rosamond Julia, Edith, James George Charles, Phoebe May, Christopher Gerald and Kathleen) at St Mary Of Charity Church, Church Road, Faversham, Kent, England on 1 Apr 18763. She also had 1 child, Sarah, whose father is unknown.

During her life, she was living at St Thomas Hill, Canterbury on 7 Apr 1861[4] and at 2 Mill Place, Faversham on 3 Apr 1881, less than a mile from her brother Charles Culmer who was living at 56 Tanners Street, Faversham, Kent, England[7],, on 5 Apr 1891[8], on 31 Mar 1901[6], on 2 Apr 1911[5] and on 29 Sep 1939.

She died on 20 Feb 1944 at 2 Mill Place, Faversham2 (hypostatic congestion following a fall at home).
