The child of Beaton Cowell and Elizabeth Baker, Benjamin Cowell, the first cousin six-times-removed on the mother's side of Nigel Horne, was born c. 1748 and baptised in Margate, Kent, England on Feb 14, 1748. He was orphaned at the age of 13 following the death of his father in 1760 and mother in 1761.
He died c. 1749 and was buried at St John the Baptist Church in Margate on May 2, 1749.
