A gardner and domestic servant and the child of Moses Coleman and Elizabeth Bass, Henry Coleman, the 3 times great-grandfather of Nigel Horne, was born in Throwley, Kent, England c. 18011,2,3,4,5,6,7, was baptised there on 17 Jan 1802 and was married twice, to Elizabeth Adams (on 14 Oct 1828 in St Nicholas-at-Wade, Kent, England) and Ann Ralph (on 23 Sep 1849 in St Nicholas-at-Wade, following the death of Elizabeth Adams on 28 Aug 1838)8. He had 2 children, both with Elizabeth Adams: Charlotte and Ellen.

During his life, he was living in Sarre, Kent in 18411, in 1851, in 18612, in 18713 and on 2 Apr 1871 following the death of his wife on 28 Aug 183812; at Sarre Court Cottage, Sarre, Kent on 3 Apr 188111; and at Sarre Court Road, Sarre, Kent on 5 Apr 189110.

He died on 11 Jan 1892 in Thanet, Kent6,7 and was buried in Sarre, Kent on 17 Jan 18929.
